Once you have killed A small troll stares at you hungrily! you will be able to head south. For the rest of the quest you will need to head north. When An ugly troll roars at you! is dead.

You will one again be attacked, this time by A huge troll stares at you menacingly. When you have killed the last troll.

An old ranger will now thank you and give you your reward then leave.
