A dark cloak will become The cloak of shadows when worn. If you are a thief it will also increase your stealth skill by up to 15 but will not allow it to go over 100.

The old man will give you the following conversation.

If you were informed by the old man and picked the correct book, you will see that you are not interested in the book followed by something similar to Still pondering this, you very slowly slide the book back into place. The manner in which you did so must have activated some hidden mechanism, for a nearby bookcase suddenly swings open to reveal a secret room! Jackpot!.

Before you get the cloak you will now have to kill A spindly-legged spider which has scuttled up.

Once the spider is dead.
get cloak
On the way out with the cloak An old man with a keen eye will catch you stealing his cloak and will attack you. You can simply ignore him and leave.
