Find the three items the smith needs. A sword blank, a handle and a cross-guard. You will have to fight for two of them. The smith can assemble them for you to make your reward.
A black dog and A vile rat can both be skinned for a little extra gold.
This quest is low enough for a brand new level 1 character to complete.

When A black dog is dead.
do get rag from corpse,lift shelf,get handle,2s,dust blades,drop rag,get blade,n,give blade to smith,s,ne,dig through pile,kill rat
When A vile rat is dead.
do get crossguard,sw,n,give crossguard to smith
An apprentice blacksmith will then form half of the blade and drop it.
do give blade to smith,give handle to smith
An apprentice blacksmith will then drop the sword and allow you to keep it as a reward.
