Leap off the edge of Zirak-Zigil. Heal up and then explore the area you have landed in. Find a way past some giants and then dig out a buried cottage to find your reward.
The storm longbow is an extremely powerful weapon (and the best bow in the game) which (unlike other bows) will actually degrade as you use it, requiring it to be reset periodically in the standard way. It will also periodically get extra damage on opponents.
A mithril-tipped arrow are the most powerful arrows in game (ignoring any special poisonous arrows with special effects).
First off you are going to want to bring plenty of healing for this quest and probably some friends as well (being well geared can be a substitute for this).
Once you are ready you should be in A ledge at the peak of Zirak-zigil.
jump off
After you land you will see *WHACK* You land in a thick icy snow drift. That hurt! It is good to be alive though. Now you wonder how you are going to get out of here.. You now need to get to safety.
do s,se,2e,burrow into snow
Here you should recover your health.
When you start the next part you will be fighting 2 very tough creatures and also taking damage from the coldness of the room themselves so you should not wait too long during the fight before returning here to heal.
Once you are ready to continue.
do do out,2w,nw,sw,jump crevasse,s
Here you will find two A hulking stone giant. These giants are extremely tough creatures who will only take damage from very hard hits and protect each other as well. At the same time as fighting the giants you will be slowly getting frostbite which will do damage to you periodically with messages such as the following.
You shiver from the cold. Your hands are going numb.
Your fingertips are blue and you cannot feel them any longer.
Your feet ache then go numb. Now your calves feel brittle and painful.
You feel sleepy and start to see wisps and visions in the snowy mist.
You should also prepare your escape route back to A tiny burrow in the snow. To get there from this room you should do the following.
do n,climb up
If you see You climb up the wall of the crevasse but slide right back down again with a firm thump. then you have failed to climb and will have to retry with the following.
climb up
Once you see You climb up the wall of the crevasse and haul yourself over the edge. you are ready to continue.
do ne,se,2e,burrow into snow
Here you can heal up again and prepare to continue.
Now you should be in A snowy trail atop Zirak-zigil with 2 A hulking stone giant and we are ready to fight.
kill giant
As the giants protect each other you should try to focus one down first. Remember to heal as you require (If you are on your own it will probably require quite a few trips back and forth to heal). Once the two giants are dead you should probably heal up once more and then come back to this room.
do se,sw,jump crevasse
You should now find yourself in The tip of a blocked valley.
dig through snow
You will now start digging into the snow (all the time still taking damage from the frostbite). You can heal up whilst you dig but you will take more damage from the frostbite if you are drunk.
You will get periodic messages whilst you are digging.
You shove the top layer of the snow aside, and indeed, there is some roof under it!
Filled with anticipation, you dig, attempting to ignore the freezing cold.
You start to wonder who could have lived here, in this inaccessible place. No one would be foolish enough to come here! Suddenly you think: Why the blazes have _I_ come here?
Foolish - or brave! You vaguely recall a story you heard somewhere, a story about an elven hunter, a hunter who was brave enough to climb the highest mountains. He might be the one who built this cottage you're trying to excavate.
Digging furiously, you try to recollect as much of the story as you can. You were young when you heard it last time, you can't even remember what the name of the hunter was. It happened... like several centuries ago. The hunter was one of the best archers to ever roam Arda, equal even to Beleg Cuthalion, and a master of the mountains.
A bow! He had a bow appropriate for his skills, a mighty longbow that, as the legend said, shot out bolts of lightning! Could the bow still be in the cottage?
You dig with anticipation, eager to reach the treasure!
You continue digging, throwing the cold packed snow aside.
You dig, dig and dig... but your strength is already at its limit.
Desperately clawing at the snow, you finally realize the moral of the story your mom told you... No one can beat the mountains, and even the mightiest may succumb to the cruel powers of nature.
You are now certain that the cottage has tumbled down, giving up under the masses of snow - and you can't reach any kind of entrance yet.[/output]
Freezing to death, you wonder what pushed you to climb this mountain, forgotten even by Eru, Melkor and the Valar... You are pretty doomed to finish your life in the form of an icy statue.
Barely being able to move, you dig. Dig long and hard. You reach something that resembles a door frame. But, what is a door with snow on both its sides worth to someone dying from cold?
The entrance to the ruined cottage is finally revealed, and it seems that the sturdy beams left some space, good enough for a shelter! Perhaps there is still a chance of survival? Perhaps the gods don't hate you?
Once you have seen the last message you will get your quest point and open a new exit in the room.
cottage
You will now find your quest reward on the floor.
In order to get out you should now heal up as you will take more damage when escaping.
do out,climb up
As before, if you see You climb up the wall of the crevasse but slide right back down again with a firm thump. then you have failed and will have to try to climb again.
climb up
Once you see You climb up the wall of the crevasse and haul yourself over the edge. you are ready to continue.
do ne,nw,n,sw,s,jump crevasse,se,slide down
You should now find yourself in An aged pathway
