  • Description

    Rob the house of a paranoid rich man.

  • The Heart of the Anduin (Very Rare) or Isilme or 10000 or 8000 gold.

  • After accepting the reward from the man, listen to his speech (he will tell you almost exactly what to do, and what to watch out for. Follow his instructions very carefully (and be very very very cautious going through the house).

  • If you are caught and trapped by the guards, you can quit the game and you will log back on in the room before you entered the house with 0 health and 0 endurance (but alive).

    There are several other things to steal in the house (such as a safe to loot, and things to steal, however the quest is easy enough to fail and therefore those are not described here).

  • The first thing I will tell you is that this quest requires a lot of precision, and that even following these instructions you may fail several times. Just be very careful, learn from your mistakes and go back and try again. Every step here is important, so make sure you read through everything.

    There are two ways to do this quest, the easiest way is to gather a group of well geared, powerful friends and to kill everything in the house. Then you can explore the house freely and only worry about the deadly traps (of which there are two), the instructions however will remain roughly the same. Described below are the full set of instructions for completing the quest solo with extra information about what causes alarms. If you are killing everything in the house then the information for you will be the same (differences will be in brackets).

    First, we need to accept the job and get some starting equipment from An injured man.

    Wait for him to say Reynar says in Westron: Hey there, friend. Interested in a job?.

    You will now be told what item you are going to steal and given several items to help you (A rope with a hook, A thick piece of cloth and A clay mould).

    The speech is quite long and goes into a lot of detail about what can go wrong in the house and how you should act. The first couple of paragraphs will let you know what you are stealing. If he says Reynar whispers to you: The thing I want you to steal is Isilme, a stunning platinum necklace inlaid with diamonds. It is a very rare and precious treasure which was once held in the keep of Pelargir. Just before the Corsair invasion, I was hired for a task of stealing it from there for one of the local merchants, named Galanir. then you are going to steal Isilme.

    If you see Reynar whispers to you: The thing I want you to steal is the Heart of the Anduin, a priceless red diamond. It is a very rare and precious treasure which was once held in the keep of Pelargir. Just before the Corsair invasion, I was hired for a task of stealing it from there for one of the local merchants, named Galanir. then you are in luck, and you will be stealing the gem (Very rare and can sell for a lot of gold privately).

    If you have heard it the speech before there is only one critical line you must pay attention to. After you have been given A rope with a hook you should do the following.

    He will then speak a paragraph which tells you the following.

    Reynar whispers to you: The only good points to attach the rope to are the gargoyles on the roof; and also not all of them are secured well enough to support your weight. The only good one is the <direction> gargoyle. So, when you reach the place, just fling your rope at it.

    The section marked <direction> will be one of "left", "right" or "middle" you will need to know this to get into the house.

    Now there are some skills you will need, some equipment you are going to need, and some equipment it would be wise to have.

    It would be very wise to have very high (ideally capped) Stealth, Awareness.

    A pack of some sort is required.

    A cloak of some sort is highly recommended (and is assumed to be had in these instructions).

    A master set of lock picks from (Calembel: Aiding the Thieves or Calembel: Killing the Thieves) is highly recommended (something of the exact same weight is required).

    A golden amulet (times two) is highly recommended to reduce the chance of failed sneak or hide).

    Some packable healing (food or flasks) is highly recommended.

    A knife of some sort is required (You do not need a knife if you are doing the quest with a group and killing).

    Once you have all of this.

    do put cloth in cloak,put mould in cloak,nw,ne,2w,u,2w,3n,7w,nw,w,nw,13w,2nw

    Now, you are going to want to have full health and full endurance before you start.

    Also you are going to need to be unencumbered, if you are even lightly encumbered you should deposit or drop some gold until you are unencumbered.

    Now we are ready to enter the house, change the alias below to the correct gargoyle you heard from An injured man (If you are doing the quest with a group you do not need to pull up the rope until all of your party has arrived).

    do fling rope at <left|right|middle> gargoyle,climb rope,pull rope,unhand rope

    Once you are in Top of a tiled roof (You do not need to worry about the cloth if you are doing the quest in a group).

    do sheath knife,get cloth from cloak,wrap cloth,break window,put cloth in cloak,open window,window,examine floorboards,get picks from cloak

    Right, this is where you should start to be 100% paranoid and check everything twice before doing it.

    First of all you will need to sneak everywhere (unless you are in a group), secondly you will need to be very observant to spot all of the traps in the house (a single mistake will get all the guards running and spoil the quest until the next reset).

    Now you will want to repeat the following command.

    look cracks

    If you see Although it's rather dim in here, through the cracks you can see that someone is walking in the room just below the attic. then someone is in the room below and you should wait (Unless you are killing, in which case now would be the time to pick the down door and go down and kill everything, be warned though that the guards are very tough, and once you have gone inside there is no escape to heal. Once you have killed the guards you should go west and kill Galanir and take A small golden key from his corpse. Now you should go east, down, west and then north and skip straight to the A small library set of instructions).

    Repeat the above command until you see Although it's rather dim in here, you notice that there is no movement in the room below the attic. It seems that no one is there at the moment..

    Now quickly do the following.

    do pick down door,put picks in cloak,sneak d,10hide

    If at any point from now on until the end of the quest you are low on endurance, you should wait until you are in a room on your own, then drink/eat it and hide again.

    From here on in you should not do anything whilst there is anyone in the room except yourself (otherwise you will be caught).

    Now you should do the folowing.

    look west

    If you see Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the west. However, a slight movement in the shadows there reveals someone's presence! then you need to wait a while.

    If, whilst you are waiting you see You hear someone snoring in the room to the west. then you should wait 30 seconds or so (to make sure there is not a guard in the room as well) if noone comes out of the room you can carry on to the next command even though it says someone is in the room.

    If you see Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the west. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. you can also carry on with the next command.

    If neither of the above applies then you will need to wait until whoever is in the room to the west comes out (and into the room you are in) and then repeat the previous checks.

    Once you are sure that it is safe to go into the west room (that there is noone there, or that only Galanir is in there asleep) and you are alone in the current room, you are ready to continue.

    do sneak w,examine leg,step over string,open wardrobe,rifle through pockets,close wardrobe,put paper in cloak,get mould from cloak

    If you entered the room because you heard You hear someone snoring in the room to the west. then you can skip the next step and go straight to the next command.

    If you are in the room alone then you should wait until you see You hear the sound of slow, heavy footsteps coming from the east. Looks like someone is coming this way! then a guard is coming into the room and you should hide immediately. The best way to do this (to make sure you don't fail to hide) is.

    10hide

    After A tough guard leaves you can stop hiding and rest for a while (though you will have to hide again the next time someone comes in).

    Keep doing this until you see You hear some footsteps coming from the east. Looks like someone is coming this way! An elderly man (Galanir) is on his way, so hide quickly then wait.

    You will see the following Galanir enters..

    Now wait a few seconds and you will see Galanir lies down on the bed and falls asleep..

    You are now ready to carry on with the next set of commands.

    do steal key from galanir,impress key in clay,return key to galanir,step over string

    You are now in the only situation (when doing the quest solo) that you will be able to sneak out of a room whilst an npc is present (Only Galanir, if a guard is present too you will have to wait until he leaves).

    Now we need to get a copy of the key from our employer.

    look east

    If it says that someone is there then you will need to wait until you see Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the east. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there..

    Now run the next command (replacing password with the current thieves den password).

    do sneak e,10hide

    Now wait a couple of seconds (if a guard or Galanir comes in you will have to wait until you are alone).

    do sneak u,window,descend from roof,2se,13e,s,se,e,se,7e,3s,2e,examine debris,climb ladder,whisper figure <password>

    Once you are inside.

    do e,sw,se,give mould to man

    Now wait whilst An injured man creates you A small pewter key you will see Reynar gives you a small pewter key..

    It might be worth healing your endurance before heading back to the house (or restocking on your healing food/drinks if you used a lot).

    You will need to replace the correct gargoyle in the next command.

    do put key in cloak,nw,ne,2w,u,2w,3n,7w,nw,w,nw,n,13w,2nw,fling rope at <left|right|middle> gargoyle,climb rope,pull rope,unhand rope,window,examine floorboards

    Now keep repeating the following command until you see Although it's rather dim in here, you notice that there is no movement in the room below the attic. It seems that no one is there at the moment.

    Once you see that noone is below you quickly do the following.

    do sneak d,10hide,examine steps,cling to banister

    Now keep repeating the following command until you see noone is below you Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies downstairs. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room.

    look d

    Once you are alone in the current room and noone is below.

    do sneak d,10hide

    Now keep repeating the following command until you see noone is in the west room Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the west. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room.

    look w

    Once you are sure it is safe to continue.

    do sneak w,10hide

    Now you need to wait until the north room is empty Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the north. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room.

    do sneak n,10hide,examine pattern,approach bookcase

    Now if you were quick (and lucky) you have made it before Galanir woke up, otherwise you are going to have quite a long wait.

    We are now in A small library (and therefor collecting the people who have killed all the guards).

    If you have killed all the guards then you do not need to wait, you should simply do the following (People on the solo quest should continue to wait, we'll pick you up in a while).

    look left bookcase,look right bookcase,look middle bookcase

    Now you should see a list of books on each shelf. Now you need to do the following with each book title until you see You pull the book entitled "<book title>" from the <left|right|middle> bookcase slightly. As soon as you do it, the wall rotates and you find yourself in a very different place!.

    pull <book title>

    Then skip forward to the A hidden cellar instructions.

    Ok, if you are doing this quest solo you should still be waiting. Once you have been in the room a few seconds (and you are certain you did not miss any warnings about foosteps coming in) you do not need to hide (to conserve your endurance) and you should probably recover by consuming some of your healing.

    Continue to wait here (hiding when you see You hear the sound of slow, heavy footsteps coming from the south. Looks like someone is coming this way! or You hear some footsteps coming from behind the wall. Looks like someone is coming this way!.

    Eventually you will see You hear some footsteps coming from the south. Looks like someone is coming this way!.

    If it says the footsteps are coming from behind the wall, it means that Galanir was a bit faster than you and you are going to have to wait till he comes out, goes to bed and then comes back (hence the long wait).

    Once you have seen the exact above output it means Galanir is on his way to the vault and we are in position. Make sure you are hiding and then wait to see the following.

    Galanir approaches the <left|middle|right> bookcase and slightly pulls a book entitled "<book title>" out of it. Suddenly, as if by magic, the wall rotates and he disappears...

    <book title> will be the title of one of the books.

    Unfortunately you now have to wait until Galanir comes out again.

    Once you see You hear some footsteps coming from behind the wall. Looks like someone is coming this way!, you should hide and wait until you see Suddenly, a section of the wall rotates and Galanir enters..

    Now wait until Galanir leaves and you are alone in the room.

    pull <book title>

    You will see something similar to You pull the book entitled "The History of Pelargir, Volume 2" from the middle bookcase slightly. As soon as you do it, the wall rotates and you find yourself in a very different place! and you will find yourself in A hidden cellar.

    examine strip,examine tiles

    Now this room is going to take some explaining. You are in a room where the floor is a 5x5 set of tiles with 2 doors and a lever in different parts of the room.

    Some of the tiles are (randomly) spring loaded and if you step on them you will take some damage and alert the guards seeing As soon as you step south onto another tile, a small dart shoots out of the wall and hits you! The sudden severe pain in the fresh scratch clearly indicates that there must have been something quite unpleasant on the dart! Before you can control yourself, you scream in pain! You hear someone yell nearby: Hey! Did you hear that? Someone is in the hidden cellar!.

    (If you have killed all the guards and Galanir then you can simply pull lever and then head north, you will take about 90 damage for pulling the lever and 90 more for heading north. You can also complete the tile maze the normal way if you like).

    On the diagram of the tiles below the following features are marked.

    A - The door back to the library (direction: back)

    B - The door to the vault (direction: north)

    C - The lever to open the door to the vault

    O - A normal tile (could be spring loaded or not)

    Now, it would be wise to open Notepad (or some other text editor) or have a piece of paper with the above dragram drawn out, so you can mark which tiles are safe as you cross them.

    First do the following.

    do examine strip,examine tiles

    Now you need to do the following.

    check tiles

    You will see something like You are currently in the southwest corner of the room, right near the passage entrance. The tile to the east is raised, while the tile to the north is not..

    In that case you should mark that the north tile is safe whereas the east tile is not.

    After each step you should.

    check tiles

    Then mark which tiles are safe and which are not (keeping track of where you are in the room).

    The first place you will want to go is the door (marked B on the diagram).

    When you are there.

    look ledge

    If you see This decorative ledge located above the door appears somewhat out of place here in this otherwise bare room. It may prove wise to inspect it before proceeding further. then you are in the right place.

    Once you are next to the ledge.

    do inspect ledge,wield knife,cut string,sheath knife

    Now you need to head to the lever (marked C on the diagram) by stepping on the safe tiles.

    When you are at the lever.

    If you see It is a long wooden lever and it is attached to the east wall. It appears to be in an upright position at the moment; it might be possible to pull it. The lever is directly within your reach. you are in the correct place and can continue.

The lever is out of your reach now; you probably need to go closer to it. then you are not in the correct place and you should move closer to the lever by stepping on the safe tiles.

    Once you are next to the lever.

    Now head back to the door (marked B on the diagram) across the safe tiles (You should not have to check tiles anymore as you now have all the paths you need marked on your diagram).

    Once you are next to the door (You can make sure of this by looking at the ledge again).

    sneak n

    You are now in the final room (A secret vault).

    First we need to disable some traps.

    do examine hollow,examine marks,detatch spring on chest,get picks from cloak,judge lockpicks

    After you have done this it should tell you You critically inspect your master set of lock picks and decide that it has an appropriate weight for the scale in the chest. (If you did not have lockpicks, you can try different items to see if anything you have matches the correct weight, you should still do this even if you killed all of the guards as this trap is a fatal poison).

    You are now ready to continue.

    replace <what you are stealing> with <when you are replacing it with>

    So if you are stealing Isilme and using lockpicks.

    Once you have the item it is time to escape the house. You are probably low on endurance so eat/drink something and get yourself back to full.

    You are now back in A hidden cellarI hope you kept your diagram as you will need it again.

    You are at B on the diagram and you need to get to A via stepping.

    Once you are at A you can do the following to make sure you are there.

    check tiles

    You should see something like the following You are currently in the southwest corner of the room, right near the passage entrance. The tile to the east is raised, while the tile to the north is not..

    The important part is "right near the passage entrance".

    look back

    You need to wait until that room is empty and you see Despite the dimness of the passage, through the cracks near the edges of the rotating wall you can get a glimpse of the library. All seems quiet, so you judge there is no one present there at the moment.. Once you are in the clear.

    do sneak back,10hide

    Now check the south room

    look s

    Wait until that room is clear Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the south. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room (This might take quite a while, so don't panic).

    do sneak s,10hide

    Now check the east room.

    look east

    Wait until the room is empty Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies to the east. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room.

    Now check upstairs.

    Wait until upstairs is empty Because of the overall darkness present in the mansion, you can't see the details of what lies upstairs. Although, since the shadows there seem rather still, you are quite sure there is no one in there. and you are alone in the current room.

    You have now escaped from the mansion with your prize and have two options.

    You can either sell the item you took privately (which may garner you more than 10000/8000 gold), or you can take it back to your employer.

    If you decide to take it back to your employer.

    do 2se,13e,s,se,e,se,7e,3s,2e,examine debris,climb ladder,whisper figure <password>

    Wait until you are inside the den.

    do e,sw,se,give <item> to man

    He will reward you and pay you your fee.

    If you decide to sell the item privately, then your employer will become very angry with you and any time you are in Pelargir for the rest of the boot you will be attacked and hunted by his assassins, so be careful.
