If you are simply interested in the gold, instead of challenging Cubeleg you can simply take some of the gold (Cubeleg may notice you stealing his gold and attack you however).

If you see The archer whirls and unleashes an arrow at your midsection. It pierces your chest, dropping you to the floor in agony. then you have failed and will have to try again (You can try again even if you are in combat, however you will have to wait until you are not busy). Once you see You casually slip to the western edge and slip the gold into your hand, being careful not to let the coins clink together. you will have gotten some of the gold (but not the quest point).
First off you are going to need a bow for this.

Cubeleg, the elven archer will then fire some arrows at a target in the room. You will automatically do the same. Based upon your aim and coordination one of two things will happen.
If you lose you will see You miss the target completely, your arrow sails off into the woods. Cubeleg sneers at you in contempt and picks up his winnings. He adds your name to the list of losers on the ledger and goes back to working on his bow string.. If you win you will see You split the archer's arrows down the middle, and win your match with the archer. The archer's features appear quite calm, but his eyes betray the truth. You decide it may be a good idea to leave quickly lest his anger gets the best of him..
You can then collect your winnings.

You will now have your reward and quest point. If you are quick you will not be attacked by Cubeleg and can leave before he attacks.
